Operation Fit is a program developed by the collaborative efforts of Bronson Battle Creek, Battle Creek Community Foundation, and Regional Health Alliance, community agencies, organizations, and the philanthropic community working towards decreasing the rate of childhood obesity in Calhoun County.

Our Message:  

Operation fit is about having a consistent message throughout a child's life. We want the school environment to be a positive influence in the development of behavior leading to a healthy lifestyle and for parents to continue the message at home.

 

Our History: 


2012 GRANT:  Bronson Battle Creek Feelin’ Good Mileage Club Pilot at Valley View Elementary School. This was the launch of the partnership of Bronson Battle Creek and area schools to impact the health of local children.

2013 GRANT:  Bronson Battle Creek Feelin’ Good Mileage Club Expansion

In 2013 the 2012 Community Health Needs Assessment was released that prioritzed obesity as the number one health priority in Calhoun County.

Bronson Battle Creek received a childhood obesity planning grant and formed a partnership with Choose Health Calhoun to research best practices and programs related to childhood obesity.

The partnership between Bronson Battle Creek and Choose Health Calhoun formed the Community Obesity Task Force.

HealthCare Leadership Forum:  Dr. Longjohn spoke about the impact of childhood obesity and some of his work with the Consortium to Lower Obesity in Chicago Children.

Dr. Longjohn made connections to the efforts in Chicago and some best practice examples such as Namaste Charter School in Chicago, IL.

Based on the task force learnings of not one program will create a big enough impact they created a toolbox approach and developed the Operation Fit Program.

In 2014 the pilot program was launched at Valley View and Fremont Elemntary School within Battle Creek Public Schools.

 

 

We look forward to our ultimate goal; to have healthier children!

 

Operation Fit is a school-based wellness program working to change the culture of local schools. It is currently being implemented at Valley View and Fremont Elementary Schools in the Battle Creek Public Schools, as well as, Prairieview Elemntary School in Lakeview School District.
